Marcus here from Indie Pop outfit Number Station, writing from the long days of summer in Melbourne, Australia. Actually – as I’m writing an incredible sun shower has just bucketed down on this town! From my studio window I can see people drenched and dancing about in the street. Hahaha Awesome!
It’s actually a nice irony as our new EP “Back Seat” was written from the depths of winter, in a beach shack on the Great Ocean road about two hours drive from here. We set up in the lounge room and jammed for a couple of weeks. It was cold and windy as hell, so we’d play along to old Italo Disco records for fun, trying to keep warm. Our previous EP “Everything Will Change” was more an guitar driven power pop experiment, so it was a bit of a shock to us to come back and listen to all these demos with analogue synths, grooves and long cosmic jams!
We finished up the recording in our home studio and got the album finished and mixed and by the wonderful Chris Coady (Future Islands, Beach House), in LA. He was so much fun to work with. On our first night in LA I remember him driving us around the hills giving us a tour of LA’s famous murder houses. He had Caribou’s fantastic new record blasting the whole time. It was kind of sad, eerie, and hilarious all at once.
It means a lot to us to be on AMBY – so thanks so much for taking time to check us out. I hope our new EP can warm a little of your day.
