“Mould” is the lead single from Manchester quartet Easy Kill’s debut EP “Already Entitled”. It’s marked “Doom Pop” on their SoundCloud page but if that sounds depressing the track is anything but. In fact the “Dream Pop” label isn’t far off capturing an emotive track that despite it’s cataloguing of a relationship in decline is ultimately uplifting as it builds over the length of its 5 minutes plus running time.
It put me slightly in mind of To Kill A King’s “Howling” in that respect, both tracks bearing repeat listenings that can still send a tingle down your spine. And there is an echo of TKAK’s Ralph Pellymounter’s tone too in lead singer Theo Tobias’s vocals which lend a purity and warmth to the the tracks narrative, backed by the compelling musicianship of bandmates Ronan Clowes, Thomas Short, and Alex Howes.
With the band formed in 2013, “Mould” represents one of the early releases of new label My Little Empire, born of blogger Aled Schell’s love for new music and promoting it – an ethos AMBY thoroughly endorses. With tracks of this calibre, the future looks bright for band and label alike.
