Going into this concert, I had high expectations of how loud the band would be, and they were not only met, but also exceeded. Halestorm were playing their brand new album ‘Into The Wild Life’ in full for the first time at the O2 Academy Liverpool, with Lzzy Hale saying “We have some surprises for you tonight”, and the fans were not disappointed.
The show was started with an ‘acoustic’ set (which was in itself pushing the limits of the term), beginning with ‘Freak Like Me’. The crowd was already getting quite crazy and not a single electric guitar had been played, and the show was quite mellow (at least until Lzzy let out the loudest high note I’ve ever heard). The crowd calms when the band play ‘In Your Room’, one of the bands slowest songs, but it was not an indication of the rest of the night.
After a few more acoustic songs, the band start on their new album in full, which is when the crowd became their most energetic. Breaking into the opening track of their album ‘Scream’, this is certainly what the entire room did. This was followed by the half rock ballad, half heavy rock ‘I Am The Fire’, the aggressive ‘Sick Individual’, and the much loved ‘Amen’ which undeniably has hints of the ‘Nashville’ sound, which is where the album was recorded. The crowd was given a break with the more relaxed ‘Dear Daughter’ and ‘New Modern Love’, but the reprieve was not for long as the band broke out into ‘Mayhem’, and everybody seemed to follow the advice of the song title and the floor started to shake.
The show continued, the band playing every single song from their new album and showing no signs of letting up, especially with the lead single from Into The Wild Life ‘Apocalyptic’. The band finished the album, but didn’t finish the show, playing fan favourites such ‘Love Bites (So Do I), and ‘I Miss The Misery’.
It had been 5 years since the band had last visited Liverpool, but the fans at the show will wish that they’ll visit again sooner rather than later as the show they put on was an unforgettable one.
