AMBY is absolutely delighted to be hosting an exclusive five part series with The Katherines entitled Summer Sessions. Over the summertime, this Vancouver-based songstress trio (comprised of sisters Kate and Lauren Kurdyak, and Kaitlyn Hansen-Boucher) recorded four covers and one original song in their own backyard — each flawless and showcasing their effortless harmonies. Today we’re sharing their amazing mash-up of Toxic by Britney Spears and Wicked Game by Chris Isaak. Watch the video on AMBY and learn what the ladies have to say about the cover below, and check back with us next Monday for another amazing rendition!

Kate: Toxic by Britney Spears and Wicked Game by Chris Isaak are two very different songs that describe an intoxicating, dangerous love. We were jamming one day when we stumbled across the idea to mash the two together. One of my favourite parts about doing covers is getting to do a song differently than the original, so I love the way that Kaitlyn and Lauren sing this one.

Lauren: I love the way these two songs intertwine to bring out a darker mood.  The lyrics in the songs are entirely relatable for anybody who has been through a difficult relationship. As a band we are always looking new songs that we can mash-up.

Kaitlyn: We used to cover Toxic and Wicked Game on their own and I love that we ended up mashing the two together. Both songs kind of twist the meaning of each other and bring a different emotion.
