Some people’s accolades come in the form of trophies or ribbons. Mine happen to come in the form of an interview. When I first started AMBY, there were so many artists I never thought I’d be able to sit down with, but now it seems that as each day passes these dream interviews are becoming a reality.
When it comes to The Subways, they’re a band I’ve loved for over a decade. It’s been eight years since they’ve returned to Toronto, and not knowing when they’ll be back, I knew I had to somehow find a way to interview these inspirations of mine. Luckily, I found myself sitting down with The Subways’ Charlotte Cooper and Billy Lunn before their absolutely amazing live show in Toronto!
The Subways kindly invited me to hang around the venue for their soundcheck after our interview. While speaking with the band, I told them that they wrote one of my favourite songs of all time, and to make the day even more special, they performed the song (a track they rarely play live) just for me — the emotionally gorgeous rock anthem Strawberry Blonde.
This is why I started the website — purely because of my love of music, and The Subways reminded me of that on this day. I clearly had a blast, so please join me on my adventure and dive into AMBY’s exclusive interview where I sit down with The Subways to discuss fan gifts, cooking books, acoustic adventures, happy hobbies, and how Billy’s dog wanted to be on their new record.
A massive thanks to the band and their manager Ben for being so welcoming!
