In our latest exclusive interview, AMBY chats with Slim Paul of Toulouse-based blues hip-hop foursome Scarecrow ahead of the release of their final album, The Last. Scarecrow will perform in Montreal tonight at at Les FrancoFolies and New York City on Friday at Drom as part of Francerocks Summerfest. Before catching them live, learn more about the band in our conversation below where we discuss the record, making love, great French artists, and dream festivals.
AMBY: You’ll soon perform at FranceRocks Summerfest! What are some things you’re looking forward to doing or exploring when in New York City?
Scarecrow: The same thing we do each time we come: tryin to catch NYC! I really think that New York is more a world capital than a common American city, people come from everywhere. And for a french band like Scarecrow, playin here is really fantastic.
AMBY: When you’re in the zone at a festival in front of tons of people, what’s running through your mind?
Scarecrow: I got to rock the mic. For my buddies on stage with me first. Because if I blow them away, who know me by heart and heard me sing a million times, I can blow away anybody.
AMBY: What would your dream festival be like, if you could have it anywhere and with anyone?
Scarecrow: I remember a poster of Coachella 69. Hendrix, the Floyd, Who, Stones, Jefferson, John Lee !! And some more. It’s like all the greatest from the 50’s and 60’s were reunited for 3 days. Better than Woodstock I think.
AMBY: FranceRocks focuses on great talent from Paris. Which acts from there would you recommend our viewers give a listen to?
Scarecrow: I don’t know. Here in Toulouse, Southwest, we got our own talents too. Billy Hornett, Dawa Deluxe, KKC Orchestra, Ezza…
AMBY: Hailing from France, what’s the perfect day off in Toulouse like? If our readers were to hang out with you for a day there, where would you take them?
Scarecrow: Chilling at the sun, playin music n drink beers or good wine. That’s what I do.
AMBY: You’ll soon share your new record The Last – congratulations! What are your plans to celebrate its release?
Scarecrow: We ain’t gonna look back to what we done. We got lot to do this year, like videos. But we are proud of this one.
AMBY: When it comes to the title, what’s the significance to you behind calling the record The Last?
Scarecrow: It’s not a joke. Or a teasing. You can feel some tragedy inside. There is a song called The Last too. And, euh, it’s the last LP released by Scarecrow !!
AMBY: When not focusing on music, what do the members of Scarecrow enjoy doing when you have downtime?
Scarecrow: Make Love. Seriously, we live with the band more than with our women…
AMBY: To wrap things up, is there anything you’d like to say to all of your fans who will be reading?
Scarecrow: Make Love.
Thank you Scarecrow, for giving us your answers!
