Chris Swanson

If you are in a band you probably want to know the following:

  • How do I get signed to a record label?
  • How do I start my own label?
  • Is a record label needed anymore?

These are all valid questions and why I decided to bring a record executive on the show today to put them questions to bed. ENTER Chris Swanson of Secretly Group (Secretly Canadian, Jagjaguwar, and Dead Oceans). Swanson is a dude from Fargo, ND, that started a record label in his college dorm room and went on to sell millions of records. It’s safe to say he could offer some insight to the above queries. The Secretly Group has released records from Major Lazer, Jens Lekman, Bon Iver, The War On Drugs, and many more.

Although he’s not the coke obsessed, sharkskin suit wearing, record executive I always imagined, he’s a good guy with great taste that signs good bands. Heed his advice!
