Introducing NEFE, the stage name adopted by Sarah Jea Felker, a 22-year old singer-songwriter hailing from Guelph, Ontario. Combined with the soulful power of Tracey Chapman, the uniqueness of Bruno Mars and a voice that can silence a room, NEFE is a burgeoning force within the Canadian musical landscape.
3Not only has she been featured on Bit Funk’s “Destination Sunrise” (streamed over 3 million times), but she’s also performed as a part of The World Cup of Hockey 2016 celebrations, 2013’s Canada’s Walk of Fame “Future Legends” show, The Atlin Arts & Music Festival, and The Eden Writer’s Festival.
NEFE made her powerful debut with her EP “Mama” in April, working with Taylor Kirk of Timber Timbre at Montreal’s Hotel2Tango studios to produce the tracks that between effortlessly combine reggae, rock, R&B and even pop.
The video for “Skin” comes as the third installment in an eventual series of five, one for every song on the EP. Ultimately the series will come together as a 20-minute short film that exemplifies NEFE’s provocative lyrics and highlights the albums central themes. The videos Directed by Dan Lemoyne (Jazz Cartier) was shot over three days in Toronto and Guelph – the mom in it is her real mom! When asked about the song, NEFE told AMBY;
“Skin means a lot to me. It’s one of those real ” feel good” tunes! It’s a song that I find takes you away from all the superficial stuff your mind is constantly bombarded with. And brings you inside yourself for a couple minutes.
The video was a lot of fun to make! Working with Dan Lemoyne and his crew really brought out the vibes of the song, on set and on camera. It was nostalgic filming back in Guelph. Reminiscing on the past, the struggles and the strength that got me to this point.”
