The MTV Video music awards are one of the music industry’s most prestigious events of the year. On Sunday 27 August some of the music fraternity headed to Inglewood, California. The MTV VMAs was airing Live from The Forum. So much more than just music was expected in this edition of the awards. One of the things expected to see was the biggest superstars rocking designer clothes.

Superstars like Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Fifth Harmony are among the stars that were expected to be the best dressed. If the previous awards are anything to go by. Katy Perry was the host of the awards show for the first time in her life. The awards honoured some of the best videos and new songs released this year. Some of the best music videos incorporated slots, basketball and other sport activities.

Performers and Staging

A lot of awesome performers performed at the ceremony. Which promised to more entertaining than ever before. A large number of superstars graced the stage. Katy Perry, Pink, Kendrick Lamar, Miley Cyrus, Fifth Harmony, Demi Lovato, Thirty Seconds from Mars, Lorde, Ed Sheeran, Gucci Mane, Logic, Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara, Post Malone, Khalid, Cardi B, Julia Michaels, DNCE, and the legendary Rod Stewart were the entertainers of the night.

The setting of the stage was inspired by VMA’s outer space theme. Angular, silver boards covered by neon lights make up the majority of the set, there was a reflected tunnel separating two main stages that face the show attendees.

Nominees

Kendrick Lamar led the nominees with 8 nominations in the categories including best video, song, and best hip hop of the year among others. Other nominees include Bruno Mars, Dj Khaled, Kanye West, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, The weekend, Shawn Mendes, Fifth Harmony, Zayn, Katy Perry, Big Sean, Chance The Rapper, Coldplay, John Legend, Imagine Dragons, Sia, Young Thug, Future, and more. Nominees were battling it out in 16 different categories. Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award was awarded to Pink.
