The online gambling industry is booming and raked in $47.11 billion in 2017 according to statista.com, and the most popular game by a long stretch is the online slot game. This is why there are now thousands of different slots in existence, created by companies such as Microgaming, NetEnt, and Playtech. Each slot is unique, and has its own theme. Some are based on movies or TV shows, but many of the most successful ones have used musical themes. So why are developers finding that music is such a hit when creating the reel-spinning machines?

Just looking at the list of online slots in existence at online-slots.ca, some of the games available are based on classic films including Terminator 2 and Gladiator, while others are totally original, such as Mega Moolah and Thunderstruck II. But go to any online casino and you will see a wealth of games based on classic music icons such as Jimi Hendrix and Elvis Presley, and these are in fact some of the most popular choices for slots players.

One of the main reasons why the combination of taking a classic rock act and using it as a theme for a slot game is so popular is the fact that there is an element of nostalgia that makes players feel comfortable. As an article points out on www.theatlantic.com, players these days are so hungry for nostalgia in their gaming experiences that they are even helping to fund creators to develop games for them which bring them back to their childhood. But another contributing factor to the use of people like Hendrix and Elvis on slots is the fact that they are still recognisable household names, despite the fact that they passed away in 1970 and 1977 respectively. They have also had a major impact on the music industry, and both still influence other artists to this day.

Hendrix is considered to be one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived, and frequently gets named in lists of most proficient axe-wielders, not to mention still being the face of merchandise, as we’ve discussed on amusicblogyea.com before. The Seattle-born psychedelic rocker was famous for classics such as Hey Joe, Purple Haze, and The Wind Cried Mary, but unfortunately he was only active for seven years, between 1963 and 1970. Still, he has influenced many other artists including Jeff Beck, and John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Elvis was nicknamed the “King of Rock and Roll” for a good reason, and to date he has had 22 number one albums, with four of those coming after his untimely death. Elvis is attributed to making rock and roll mainstream, and had an unimaginable impact on nearly everything that followed him.

While Hendrix and Elvis are two of the most notable artists to find themselves immortalised in slot machine format, there are many others. Guns N’ Roses and Michael Jackson also have their own slot games, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see even more music legends showing up on the spinning reels and the games continue to be played regularly by millions of people all over the world.
