Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Ash

Since their first album released back in ’94, Ash have been delivering badass, upbeat, energy-pumping songs for everyone to love. Once they announced a new tour, we knew we had to catch up with the band to see what’s going on. Their drummer Rick McMurray took the time to answer some of our questions, so take a look!

AMBY: What has the band been up to lately?

RM: We did a bunch of festivals this summer including our 1st in China and Isle of Wight.

AMBY: Which three songs are the quintessential Ash?

RM: Tough question! Maybe Girl From Mars, Shining Light and Arcadia.

AMBY: What is your favourite lyric that you have written?

RM: Maybe,”If there’s a hell I hope you burn in it my friend. “I’ve not used it yet. Might be a bit harsh.

AMBY: What is the most memorable moment you have had while touring?

RM: We’ve had so many but Mark’s bass amp falling off Tim’s cab and hitting a taxi which sent if flying through the air for 30 yards just popped into my head.

AMBY: What’s on your iPod at the moment?

RM: Soundgarden, Rush, Flaming Lips and Julian Cope.

AMBY: What do you do outside of music for fun?

RM: Hanging out with my daughter is what I do when I’m not drumming.

AMBY: How would you define success for yourselves as a band?

RM: Making a decent living from what we’ve been doing for the last 20 years is pretty amazing. I’m grateful we can do what we always wanted to do for a living. A lot of people don’t have that luxury.

AMBY: Which three albums changed your life?

RM: Iron Maiden; Live After Death, Nirvana; Nevermind, The Who; The Best of…

AMBY:. Who would you like to be most and least stuck in an elevator with?

RM: Rivers Cuomo and Rivers Cuomo.

AMBY: If you could be any character in fiction, whom would it be?

RM: The Devil in Bulgakov’s Master and Margarita would be cool. He seems like he has a lot of fun.

AMBY: What is the best song of 2012?

RM: We Are Not Good People by Bloc Party.

AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Ash that nobody knows yet?

RM: We got lost on the way to the venue today. I’ve used that time to answer this!
