Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Twisted Wheel

Twisted Wheel By Paul AdsheadThere’s something about Twisted Wheel’s sound that achieves greatness; whether it’s their ability to always have an amazing hook or how their lyrics perfectly intertwine with their songs, Twisted Wheel’s music never fails to give listeners something to love. Vocalist Jonny Brown took the time to speak to us about their latest album Do It Again, best tour moments and what he does outside of music for fun!

AMBY: You have recently released your second album Do It Again. How has your sound evolved since the last one?

JB: The sound on Do it Again is still massively influenced by late 70’s punk era, as you can hear on tracks like Postman, Do it Again and UK Blues. As these songs are quite similar to the sounds of the first album, it’s the songs like Ride, Honey Girl and When You’re Alone that show another side of Twisted Wheel. I think we have matured and have been more willing to open up to different genres and write about more passionate subjects.

AMBY: I really like the energy on the new record, is that a direct result of the new line up?

JB: Eoghan, our new drummer is much younger so he’s a lot more energetic and buzzing, Stephen the bassist is a real rocker at heart and can be a menace when he wants to be. He is always raring to go and was most excited about making this record.

AMBY: Which three songs are the quintessential Twisted Wheel?

JB: Ride, Bored and Honey Girl.

AMBY: What’s your favourite song to play live at the moment?

JB: Bored. I like the diversity between the verse and chorus and it seemed to be a massive crowd pleaser during the recent tour.

AMBY: What is the most memorable moment you have had while touring?

JB: Playing That’s Entertainment with Paul Weller at the Silverstone race track.

AMBY: Ride has such a cool feel, what is the story behind the song?

JB: Whatever you want it to be.

AMBY: What do you do outside of music for fun?

JB: Recently started recycling furniture from skips, big massive walks, swimming and food.

AMBY: If you could invite three people to dinner who would you choose?

JB: Rod Stewart, Keith Richards and Joe Strummer. If I can’t invite corpses then I’ll have Derren Brown.

AMBY: What have you been listening to lately?

JB: Dr. Feelgood.

AMBY: What album are you most embarrassed to own?

JB: I’m not embarrassed to own any albums.

AMBY: What is the best song of 2012?

JB: Suffragette City– David Bowie.

AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Twisted Wheel that nobody knows yet?

JB: We’re gonna change the world.
