Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ The Razz

An Interview with John Clancy from The Razz!

The RazzThe Razz: neat sound, neat lyrics, superb band. With the recent incredible news of the group recording in the NBT Studios, we at AMBY cannot wait to hear some new tunage. To find out what The Razz has been up to outside of the studio, we spoke to John Clancy from the band, so check out this interview!

AMBY: Hello The Razz, thanks for taking the time to do this interview! What’s the band been up to lately?

JC: We have been on busy recently we went down to London for a photo shoot for Love Magazine, saw so many hot models well worth the journey. We supported the view in Liverpool which was possibly are best gig, we just love the big crowds!

AMBY: Who influences you as songwriters and musicians?

JC: Kings of Leon, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, Kasabian, all the good bands. We try are best to sound as original as possible.

AMBY: Where did the band’s name come from?

JC: We had a messy night in a grungy club called the blue angle which is locally referred to as ” The Raz” we toyed with a few other names before that but as soon as that suggestion was made everything else was thrown in the trash can haha

AMBY: The melody in Poetic Masquerade is really dare I say it… Unique and poetic! What’s the story behind the track?

JC: I (John Clancy) stayed off school the day before my maths A level exam to revise but instead ended the day with a Poetic Masquerade. That was the name of the band for like a day. It’s about ambitions and the stereotypes of rock stars.

AMBY: Which Razz tune is your favourite and why?

JC: I think it has got to be a song called Leave With Me. It’s our finisher. It has the most epic ending it’s worth getting a flight to the UK just to see it as we don’t have it recorded yet. ha

AMBY: You’ve recently been doing some touring with The View! What’s that been like?

JC: It’s amazing they are really good lads and have helped us so much we can’t thank them enough. The Gigs we had in Scotland were so good just playing in front of complete strangers and seeing them all buzzing for us is just the best feeling ever!!!

AMBY: Describe your dream gig and who would be on the bill with you.

JC: Kasabian, Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles.  Kasabian make it because we all watched them in Leeds festival this year and it was just the best gig we have ever witnessed. The other three are just legends and besides the Beatles are from Liverpool so we’re basically related.

AMBY: Which three albums changed your life?

JC: Favourite Worst Nightmare, Because Of the Times, Experience Hendrix.

AMBY: Who would you like to be most and least stuck in an elevator with?

JC: Most Will Ferrell because he is just the best human ever created and least Jedward because they are the pinnacle of annoyance!

AMBY: What do you do outside of music for fun?

JC: Usually go on nights outs in Liverpool ending up in the famous Razz around 3AM.

AMBY: What is the best song of 2012 so far?

JC: Little Black Submarine (Black Keys) such a tune.

AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about The Razz that nobody knows yet?

JC: We are gonna be the next big thing you just don’t know it yet! haha

So there you have it- The Razz are “gonna be the next big thing” and that doesn’t come as a surprise for their great tunes back that statement up! Check out their tracks over on their SoundCloud. And lastly, thank you John, for giving me your answers!
