Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ The Fallows

The FallowsThe Fallows rock. While writing this, I’m listening to their fantastic track Take My Little Heart; a song with clever lyrics, an immense chorus and one that always hits the spot. Not only do they have this stellar track, but have put out plenty other great ones to check out. The Fallows took the time to talk to AMBY about their tunes, dream gigs and more- so take a look!

AMBY: For those who haven’t had the pleasure of hearing you, how would you describe the Fallows’ sound in three words?

The Fallows: For those who have not heard us, The Fallows are an indie band from Ellesmere Port. We try and create melodic hooks with driving rhythms. But in 3 words. Indie, rock n roll.

AMBY: How did the band come to form?

The Fallows: We came together via friends and meeting up at houses just chatting about music.
A few of us have been in and out of bands together over the last few years. But this line up came together in 2010 and things are going really well for us at the moment.

AMBY: Who influences The Fallows as musicians and songwriters?

The Fallows: Well for me (Gavin) I have been influenced by loads of different bands. There is a bit of Beatles and Stones in there, to the massive sounds of the editors and rock n roll of brmc. But I would say all the band brings a host of different influences which create our Fallows’ sound.

AMBY: You have recently released your new video for the single Shoot Your Gun, what’s the story behind the song?

The Fallows: Shoot Your Gun, yeah we recorded that video in Bradford in some old derelict theatre. There was someone there from most haunted checking out the building. Bit mad. But the songs itself is just a rant really. Trying to get you going and up for it. Usually goes down well at gigs and everyone goes a little mental. It’s great when it’s happening.

AMBY: Take My Little Heart is a great song, what is the songwriting process like for the band?

The Fallows: Yeah thanks, Take My Little Heart is kind of free track we put together after shoot your gun. Generally our writing process starts with me and I pull together a melody and chord progression. I take this to the band and trash out ideas of what we want and work through Dynamics. It’s quite organic and if we start a track it generally just falls together. It’s a good set up we have at the moment.

AMBY: Describe your dream gig and who would be on the bill with you.

The Fallows: Dream gig… Well I know Mike would have Led Zeppelin headlining. Gotta go for classic bands. The Stones would be in there as well. I wouldn’t play I would just watch them and steal their rider.

AMBY: Is there an album in the works?

The Fallows: This week we actually just finished mastering a 5 track EP. We hopefully want to get this out in February and get a big hometown gig going again for the release date. But will see what happens.

AMBY: Which three albums changed your life?

The Fallows: I would have to say Definitely Maybe by Oasis. I was a young lad at the time and just remembering hearing it and thinking that’s what I want to do. Its was special.

Ryan Adams, Love is Hell. Great piece of work. Am a huge fan and think everyone should listen to him.

And finally The Beatles’ White Album. Absolutely huge amount of work. Just blew my mind the varied amount of music pulled together was and is amazing.

AMBY: What is the best song of 2012 so far?

The Fallows: Best track of 2012...Antarctica by Sound Of Guns.

AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about The Fallows that nobody knows yet?

The Fallows: Something nobody knows about us would be that once we had a tobacco shot challenge and we all came last.
