I’ve been listening to a ton of new music lately, but a group I’ve had on repeat are CityLightz. I found CityLightz whilst searching through submissions and am absolutely thrilled I did. With their neat and unexpected spin on indie music, I believe this group is one you have to keep an eye on- you’ll easily become musically addicted to them! CityLightz took the time to speak to AMBY about their music, inspirations, time machines, writing songs and eating chicken!
AMBY: How would you describe CityLightz sound in three words?
CityLightz: Out the box.
AMBY: Where did your name come from?
CityLightz: Luke was a big fan of an American band call Over it and they had a song called citylights so we sort of pinched it an cooled it up with a Z!
AMBY: Where did you draw inspiration from to combine indie music and that funky rap vibe?
CityLightz: Luke and Ad actually started Citylightz as an indie band but when threw a party at their place B was there and they got the guitars and B started rapping about the angry next door neighbour and it just sort of caught on from there.
AMBY: What’s the best part about being in CityLightz?
CityLightz: The fact that you never know what’s coming next we have played indie, funk, jazz, ska and reggae, I’m feeling a folk song next.
AMBY: Where would CityLightz go in a time machine?
CityLightz: Back to the 60’s and try get a feature on every number one ever written, except call me maybe that should never of happened!
AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?
CityLightz: We listen to a lot of unsigned music and listen to a lot of the bands tht we play with like: The Town, The One Twos, The Clocktower and the band we think you should watch out for Dirty Little Lies.
AMBY: What is the best song of 2012?
CityLightz: Kendrick Lamar- Swimming Pools
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about CityLightz that nobody knows yet?
CityLightz: We are actually releasing our debut single middle of next year which is exciting and also we spend our spare time writing songs and eating chicken!
