Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Velocets

VelocetsOh the Velocets. I’ve taken such a liking to this band, not only is their music completely fetching and enduring but the band members themselves match that energy and vibe. With each track they release the songs only get better and better. And with this new year finally here, I absolutely cannot wait to see what 2013 brings this band! So AMBY caught up with the group to talk about dream collaborations, punching each other in the head & cabbages!

AMBY: How would you describe Velocets’ sound in three words?

Velocets: Punk / Melodic / Genuine.

AMBY: Where did your name come from?

Velocets: Our name stems from clockwork orange, it’s a drug they put in the milk! We were dancing around names for ages and that one just seemed to fit!

AMBY: You’ve recently sent out another great tune called Tell It To Your Kids. How would you describe it in three words?

Velocets: Play. It. Again.

AMBY: If you weren’t in a band what would you be doing?

Adam: Don’t think I’d last very long if I weren’t in a band. I get bored very easily and Velocets is something that always keeps me going.

Ell: I have an amazingly short attention span so it’s hard to say what I’d be doing because I change my mind so easily on what I want to do, I’d probably be wheeling and dealing somewhere, getting up to no good, as usual!

Dom: I think I’d still be trying to do something in the music industry but I’d probably be sat behind a desk.

AMBY: Who would your dream collaboration be with?

Adam: I’d like to write a tune with Ian Curtis.

Ell: Joe Strummer, hands down, EVERY TIME!

Dom: Id love to work with Ben Burtt the sound designer that created the sound for the lightsaber, bet he could get a drum kit to make some epic sounds.

AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?

Adam: Foals / The Joy Formidable / Yuck / The Cribs / Mama Roux are all I’m listening to at the moment.

Ell: Been smashing a lot of Foals and Yuck recently, two great British bands that we love the sound of!

Dom: Been listening to a lot of Wolfmother and Foo Fighters at the moment, with a bit of Muse thrown in for good measure.

AMBY: Blunt question, but a good one! …Who would you like to punch in the head?

Adam: I jokingly punch Ell in the head quite a lot. I don’t necessarily want to but it’s just an urge that I get. Would be cool to punch N Dubz or something. Or one direction, like collectively with one big fist.

Ell: Adam Walsh, but that’s only out of love!

Dom: Simon Cowell.

AMBY: Where would you go in a time machine?

Adam: 1994 ish? So I could go to America and watch Blink 182 play at spring break.

Ell: Back to last night to stop myself from drinking and feeling this terrible today!

Dom: I really don’t know there too much to choose from so I’m just going to say the future.

AMBY: What is the best song of 2012?

Adam: It may have been a re-release but: We Are Augustines- Chapel Song

Ell: I can’t really think of my favourite! a lot of folk music has been dominating the charts recently, which is a bit upsetting as it can be very samey. I really liked The Vaccines new album, love the sounds of Weirdo and Bad Mood, Inhaler by Foals is a definite 2012 tune as well!

Dom: Foo Fighters – White Limo

AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Velocets that nobody knows yet?

Adam: Elliott is actually Paul Weller’s son.

Ell: That this year we’re gonna have the world! Bring on 2013 and see you in the crowds!

Dom: I collect cabbages.

Check out the band on their Twitter and Facebook for announcements about upcoming gigs and tracks! And lastly, thank you Velocets, for giving me your answers! We wish you the best in 2013!
