Ferals have already become a group to adore, and that’s with just one track! Their song White Gold has a fetching hook which flows from the verse ever so smoothly into the chorus. And with many tracks coming together during rehearsal, Ferals have some songs on their plate we cannot wait to hear. So to learn a little more about the direction they’re taking their music, AMBY spoke to the band to catch up!
AMBY: Who are Ferals? Tell us a little about yourselves!
Ferals: We are Matt Dryden-Vocals & Guitar, Matt Porter- Drums, Corey Clough-Howard- Bass guitar, Rob Caddock- Guitar & Backing vocals. Matt D started Ferals back in 2012 and recruited Matt P straight away, after knowing each other from school. Corey replied to an ad we’d posted looking for a bass player and he knew Rob who we eventually recruited as an additional guitar player.
AMBY: Where did the name Ferals come from?
Ferals: The name Ferals came from Matt D growing up in Spain and seeing packs of Feral dogs roaming around. They always seemed so resourceful and tenacious. They were quite inspiring.
AMBY: Who influences you as musicians?
Ferals: Radiohead are a massive inspiration, as are Nirvana and Jeff Buckley. All had/have a great writing talent, which is something we really admire.
AMBY: Your track White Gold is great, and I hear you’ve been in the studio! What direction are you taking your sound?
Ferals: Thank you very much. We’ll be back in the studio hopefully in early February to record our track Prisms. The sound fits very well with our track White Gold, but is perhaps a little more atmospheric and features quite a lot of delay on the guitars.
AMBY: What’s your hidden talent?
Ferals: We are all psychics. I know what you’re thinking……
AMBY: Who would your dream gig be with?
Ferals: There’s a few I think. Probably Radiohead, Nirvana, The Smiths or Foo Fighters. In fact, all of them on the same night would be incredible.
AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?
Ferals: We’ve been listening to A LOT of Alt-J recently. What a phenomenal album that is!. There’s also been a fair amount of Atoms For Peace, Haim, Bombay Bicycle Club and Tame Impala to name a few.
AMBY: If you could invite any three people to dinner, who would you choose?
Ferals: It’s hard to narrow it down to three, but I’d probably say Tom Waits, David Attenborough and according to Matt P ‘The incredible blond girl from the film, In Bruges’.
AMBY: What song is your guilty pleasure?
Ferals: Anything by Bonnie Tyler or She Drives Me Crazy by The Fine Young Cannibals.
AMBY: What is the best song of 2012?
Ferals: Either Taro by Alt-J or 212 by Azealia Banks. Both are incredible songs in their own right, and both extremely fresh sounding.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Ferals that nobody knows yet?
Ferals: Pretty much everything. Hopefully that might change in 2013 so we can moan that people know too much about us J
Ferals’ track White Gold can be heard below, and make sure to keep an eye open for Ferals’ new music! Lastly, thank you Ferals, for giving me your answers!
