Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Ex Cops

Ex CopsBrooklyn, New York’s Ex Cops have just released their debut record True Hallucinations and I have already developed a love the record. Short, sweet and melodically wonderful, the album delivers a fascinating listening experience. With gentle harmonies and textured arrangements, Ex Cops will have you handcuffed after your first listen. Excited to find out more, the band took the time to talk to AMBY about punking their audience, Weird Al and webbed shoes.

AMBY: How would you describe Ex Cops’ sound to those unfamiliar with your music?

Ex Cops: I’d let them borrow our album, then repeatedly call to get it back.

AMBY: You are about to release your debut record, True Hallucinations. What does the band have planned for 2013?

Ex Cops: Tour tour tour and work on album 2. we want to see the world, but will probably avoid myrtle beach.

AMBY: Ken is a super catchy song, what is the story behind it?

Ex Cops: We wanted to make a Breeders b-side.

AMBY: What is the funniest thing to happen to you at one of your gigs?

Ex Cops: One time i punk’d everyone and acted like i forgot the lyrics to like 5 songs. as a goof.

AMBY: If you could create a law that everyone would have to follow, what would it be?

Ex Cops: You canNOT wear those webbed shoes that follow the contour of your toes.

AMBY: Who would your dream gig be with?

Ex Cops: Weird Al or My Bloody Valentine.

AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?

Ex Cops: Cluster, Here We Go Magic, Robyn, Cocteau Twins, John Maus, Black Flag, Mariah Carey.

AMBY: What song could you live without ever hearing again?

Ex Cops: Old timey rock n roll. i hate it with a passion.

AMBY: If you were a heavy metal band whom would you be and why?

Ex Cops: Lita Ford’s backing band.

AMBY: What has you excited for 2013?

Ex Cops: The return of arrested development. phil spector may have a parole hearing. BREAKING BADDDD.

AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Ex Cops that nobody knows yet?

Ex Cops: We own Problem Child 2 on VHS.
