Cheatahs’ music has a wonderful balance of energy and melody. If you listen to the London bands track The Swan, you can hear this combination in all of it’s fuzzy beauty. With a brand new EP and upcoming tour, Cheatahs took the time to talk to AMBY about the origin of their name and Black Sabbath.
AMBY: How would you describe CHEATAHS’ sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
Cheatahs: Get this question a lot from family during the holidays or people you haven’t seen for a long time. I usually answer in really vague terms and the conversation gets really awkward. Then they reference a band they think it might sound like and I agree.
AMBY: Where did the name CHEATAHS come from?
Cheatahs: I made it up.
AMBY: The Swan is a splendid song, what is the story behind it?
Cheatahs: Thanks! Well James brought it in and it actually didn’t have a chorus at the beginning. We added the vocal melody last minute and people seem to like it. That’s about it!
AMBY: Congrats on your signing to Wichita Recordings. What does the band have planned for 2013?
Cheatahs: Well we are just about the start recording our first LP. We have a couple shows during the next few months then we hit the road in North America. We’ll be in Toronto and Montreal in April I think.
AMBY: If you could create a law that everyone would have to follow, what would it be?
Cheatahs: That sounds pretty scary.
AMBY: Who would your dream gig be with?
Cheatahs: Black Sabbath.
AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?
Cheatahs: True Widow, Low, Woods, Sharon Van Etten, Mac De Marco.
AMBY: If you could invite any three people to dinner, who would you choose?
Cheatahs: My family.
AMBY: What is the best song of 2012?
Cheatahs: Gangnam Style obviously.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about CHEATAHS that nobody knows yet?
Cheatahs: That’s a secret.
Cheatahs’ song The Swan can be heard below! And of course, thank you Cheatahs, for giving us your answers!
