The Money Go Round have a wicked psychedelic-surf sound that will make you want to ride their wave. Entrenched in garage rock noise, this Aussie band will have you swaying and shaking your money maker. So to catch up with them, AMBY spoke to The Money Go Round about YAYAYA, hot mums in crowds, and way more!
AMBY: How would you describe The Money Go Round’s sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
The Money Go Round: A modern spin on 60s and 70s psychedelic and surf rock… it gets a little swampy and punky but we always try to keep it catchy.
AMBY: Where did the name The Money Go Round come from?
The Money Go Round: The money go round is actually a song by The Kinks…our vocalist was hassling for a band name, we said let’s go with that one and before you could blink he had posters, a Facebook and Twitter account in full swing so it kinda stuck ha.
AMBY: YAYAYA is such a cool song, what is the story behind the song?
The Money Go Round: Was a bit of a jam in a sweaty granny flat in the western burbs of Sydney on a 40 degree day.. the song essentially represents getting yourself out of a rut.
AMBY: What is the funniest thing to happen to you at one of your gigs?
The Money Go Round: We played a show in Brisbane at the end of last year.. our bass players flight from Sydney was delayed. Naughty boy was sending msgs from his phone whilst still in the air to let us know he wasn’t going to make it..we managed to push the start time a bit in the hope he may show up..20 minutes after our initial start time we were gathered out front of the venue.. off in the distance we could make out the figure of a man and a bass running through the mall.. sprinting and leaping he managed to get tangled up in some unsuspecting diners, picking himself up he ran passed us, up the stairs on to stage, plugged in, turned to us with only enough time for a high five before we counted in.. ended up being one of our better sounding gigs, nothing like a bit of pressure.
AMBY: What does the band have planned for 2013?
The Money Go Round: looking to release a few singles and drop an ep around our spring.. our first single and clip for 2013 is due for release in March.
AMBY: Who would your dream gig be with?
The Money Go Round: It would be really cool to play a show with The Wiggles, they have a big fan base and there’s an abundance of hot mums in the crowd.
AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?
The Money Go Round: Heaps of Beatles, Kinks, Small Faces and bands like that..it’s hard not to listen to that stuff it’s too good!
AMBY: If you could invite any three people to dinner, who would you choose?
The Money Go Round: George Martin and Dave Sardy..it would be good to pick their musical brains, and I’d say the whole band would want to invite Miranda Kerr to dinner as she’s probably the best looking human on earth at the moment.
AMBY: What has you excited for 2013?
The Money Go Round: The anticipation of releasing some new stuff and not knowing how people are going to respond to it, also the prospect of playing with some fun bands in places we’ve never been.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about The Money Go Round that nobody knows yet?
The Money Go Round: Well that’s a tricky question for us as there’s too many things to mention that people don’t know about us… I guess our forth coming release was all done in house from producing and engineering the track to creating and directing the video clip…
Thank you The Money Go Round, for giving us your answers!
