Clubs’ music is magnetic. I’ll tell you this much- take one listen to their song Carry You, and I can assure you that “love, love love” will be running through your mind for hours. The vocals are seductive, yet sweet and genuine at the same time. And that whirling guitar riff and brisk drumbeat only adds to the song’s immense addictiveness. Clubs have a great year ahead of them, so we spoke with the band about the meaning behind Carry You, plans for 2013, and more!
AMBY: How would you describe Clubs’ music in three words?
Clubs: Progressive Love Music.
AMBY: Where did the name Clubs come from?
Clubs: A long list, and lots of debating.
AMBY: What would a movie based on the band be called?
Clubs: Probably Never Say Never 2.
AMBY: Who influences you as a band?
Clubs: A lot of different bands. Listening to a lot of Tame Impala, Peace, The Maccabees and WU LYF, to name a few.
AMBY: On the topic of influences, if you could have dinner with any three, who would you choose?
Clubs: We could never agree on just three, but more than likely Morgan Freeman, Beckham and Joe Wilkinson.
AMBY: Carry You is a great tune! What’s the story behind it?
Clubs: The story behind the song is whatever is going on with a relationship, whether it is girlfriend/boyfriend/friends/family, your always willing to ‘Carry’ the person. It’s quite open to interpretation, but that’s the intention it was written with.
AMBY: What has you excited for 2013?
Clubs: Lots of stuff, EP releases, we shot a video, gigs? Summer more than anything. Festivals and fun etc…
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Clubs that nobody knows yet?
Clubs: Something no one knows… Our guitarist’s dad used to race sidecars.
