FIDLAR’s music is loud, wicked garage-pop. The band have an exciting year ahead of them with tours and new releases, so we wanted to speak with FIDLAR to get the scoop on the busyness! FIDLAR spoke with AMBY about touring, people stealing cymbals, and “riding that big wave called life”!
AMBY: How would you describe FIDLAR’s sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
FIDLAR: Loud fucked up rock n roll.
AMBY: You have recently released your self-titled debut album. What does the band have planned next?
FIDLAR: We’re touring right now with Wavves. Just a whole bunch of touring over the next year. We’re going back to Europe this summer and I’m stoked for that. We actually have a month off in may, so maybe record and write another record. Who knows. Just riding that big wave called life.
AMBY: No Waves is a cool song, what is the story behind it?
FIDLAR: That song is about rehab. My counsellor kept asking me how I felt. They always ask you how you feel. I would just respond that I want go get fucked up with my friends and not be in rehab.
The song originally sounded really sad and depressing, but I wanted to not feel like that anymore so I changed it to sound like a poppy happy song. It’s my therapy.
AMBY: If you were a heavy metal band whom would you be and why?
FIDLAR: I don’t know any heavy metal bands.
AMBY: What part of the world would you like to play that you have not yet?
FIDLAR: Australia! We’re going there this summer and I can’t fuckin wait.
AMBY: What are you fave songs off the new record?
FIDLAR: Cheap Cocaine.
AMBY: Which three albums changed your life?
FIDLAR: Blink 182 – Dude Ranch, Thee Oh Sees – Help, Elliott Smith – Self Titled.
AMBY: What is the funniest thing to happen to you at one of your gigs?
FIDLAR: Someone tried to steal a Max’s cymbal while we were playing.
AMBY: What has you excited for 2013?
FIDLAR: Europe and Australia.
AMBY: If you could create a law that everyone would have to follow, what would it be?
FIDLAR: Ban Cellphones.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about FIDLAR that nobody knows yet?
Thank you FIDLAR, for giving us your answers!
