Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Pink Pumps

Pink PumpsWhen we first heard Pink Pumps, it made us think of how much we love running AMBY. This band were a reminder of all the little musical gems we’ve luckily come across. This Warrington four-piece are dishing out some seriously good pop-rock vibes, so AMBY invites you to discover Pink Pumps as we talk about their name, a song about erectile problems, and off the wallness!

AMBY: Hello Pink Pumps, please introduce yourselves to AMBY!

Pink Pumps: Hello, we’re the Pink Pumps and we are Ken (bass) Pump, Dave (guitar) Pump (writing this), Mark (drum) Pump and Roman (lead guitar) Pump. We originally got together in 1981, split in 1983 then reformed in 2011 to take advantage of none of us being dead. Now as then we play Power Pop.

AMBY: What’s the band been up to lately?

Pink Pumps: We’ve been gigging regularly and making sporadic attempts at finishing an album.

AMBY: Where did the name Pink Pumps come from?

Pink Pumps: When we first got together we were discussing potential names when Ken spotted the phrase “Pink Pump” on an ideas board I had on the wall. It had nothing to do with shoes then, and still doesn’t.

AMBY: Which Pink Pumps song is your favourite?

Pink Pumps: I like “Every Night”, but for sheer off the wallness, “She’s Got Fins” takes some beating. Somebody once described it as the Ramones meet Yes.

AMBY: You know we love Everynight. What’s the song about?

Pink Pumps: It’s about a bloke trying to convince his ex girlfriend that his erectile problems are a thing of the past!

AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?

Pink Pumps: The Bonzo Dog Band, Field Music, Joni Mitchell, The Soft Boys and The Third Ear Band.

AMBY: Which three of your influences would you love to hang out with for a day?

Pink Pumps: Viv Stanshall, Robyn Hitchcock and Dr Alice Roberts.

AMBY: If you could tour anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Pink Pumps: Japan. They really know how to have a good time and they pay a lot for singles by the Jeff Hill Band which I played on. Plus the best LP cover in the world ever is Japanese, The Flower Travellin’ Bands “Anywhere” album.

AMBY: What has you excited for 2013?

Pink Pumps: Kim Jong-un. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

AMBY:  And last but never least, what’s something about Pink Pumps that nobody knows?

Pink Pumps: The bands drug of choice is cake.

Thank you Pink Pumps, for giving us your answers!
