Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Valleys

ValleysMontreal duo Valleys are about to release their newest album Are You Going To Stand There and Talk Weird All Night. The record is filled with lush vocals, layered choruses, and electronic textures that will stir your imagination. AMBY wanted to learn more about the album, so we caught up with Valleys to have a chat about funny crowd moments, the new album, and how “thou shalt be cool”.

AMBY: Hello Valleys, what have you been up to?

Valleys: Playing shows and meeting people.

AMBY: How would you describe Valleys’ sound to those unfamiliar with your music?

Valleys: Dark pop music with a touch of muscle.

AMBY: Your new album Are You Going To Sit There and Talk Weird All Night is out April 29! What are the band’s plans for the release?

Valleys: We going to tour North America and Europe and throw some parties.

AMBY: Where did the name Valleys come from?

Valleys: From the Xiu Xiu song I Luv the Valley OH.

AMBY: We’ve been addicted to Hounds. How did the song come to be?

Valleys: First of all, thank you.  It came from a dark place and so we slapped it on top of a sick groove and voila!

AMBY: What’s the funniest thing to happen to you at a gig?

Valleys: In Chicago a year ago, halfway through our set someone in the crowd shouted out:”THIS IS GOING VERY WELL!!”

AMBY: Does coming from Montreal, Quebec have an influence on your music? And if yes, how so?

Valleys: To be quite honest, we would be making the same music pretty much anywhere that has electricity.

AMBY: Which three of your influences would you love to have dinner with?

Valleys: Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, G.I. Gurdjieff, Zach Galifianakas

AMBY: What has you excited for 2013?

Valleys: Spring Breakers, the Majical Cloudz record, summer and the Knicks dominating in the playoffs.

AMBY: If you could create a law that everyone would have to follow, what would it be?

Valleys: Thou shalt be cool.

AMBY: And last but never least, what’s something about Valleys that nobody knows?

Valleys: Ask your mom.
