Hi everyone, we’re Inkhouse, a band from Croydon, South London, which formed in the winter of 2011. The band is: Andrew James, Sabiyha Rasheed and Laurence Kelly. Laurence and I (Andrew) were in a band in high school and have been writing music together since we were 14. We met Sabiyha, an incredibly talented singer-songwriter in her own right, through some friends and asked if she’d like to collaborate on some tunes. Those tunes naturally transcended into the formation of Inkhouse. Throughout the past year, Inkhouse has moved into a different, experimental dimension, moulding mine and Laurence’s indie vibe with Sabiyha’s folk-driven style. We decided to let go of any limitations and disregard the haunting question; ‘how will we pull this off live?’ just to see where our minds would wander. The result is this long anticipated, five-track debut EP, ‘INKHOUSE’. It was recorded over countless sessions in my bedroom/makeshift home studio and produced by my friend William Jones, an awesome up-and-coming producer, and I. A description of our sound is something I have really struggled with… it’s a bit Alt J, it’s a bit The Maccabees, it’s a bit Bon Iver and it’s a bit something I can never put my finger on. Have a listen and I guess you can decide for yourself! We’ve pulled together a great live band with the help from our friends and we are planning lots of shows over this summer, hopefully a tour of the south coast of the UK too.
Maybe see you at a show, Andrew x
