Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Puppet Rebellion

Puppet RebellionRecently formed and busy recording, Manchester’s Puppet Rebellion have already received great reactions to their demo “The Greatest Lie Ever Told”. Guitarist Craig Gibson took the time to chat with AMBY about the formation of the band, his influences, what’s next, and his psychic abilities.  Have a read below and see what the hype’s about.

AMBY: How did Puppet Rebellion come to be?

Puppet Rebellion: Having recently left my previous band I responded to an ad from Simon Monaghan (Singer) who had also recently left a band. Having both been the main driving forces behind our former bands we found a lot of common ground straight away and also shared a lot of the same musical influences. Simon worked with a drummer Chris Carcamo who was also on the verge of leaving a band and having met up with us for a rehearsal he was convinced to join. Over the following couple of months we auditioned various bassists and guitarists before finding the people that we felt fit the mold, that being Jim Halliwell (bass) and Paul Trochowski (guitar).

AMBY: For all those prospective listeners out there, how would you describe your sound?

Puppet Rebellion: Sound is obviously a very difficult thing to describe in words and I’m not a fan of long winded pretentious descriptions. All I can really say is that it’s pretty modern Indie not entirely dissimilar to bands such as Interpol & The Strokes but with an English Singer.

AMBY: What’s been the biggest influence on your music; whether artist, writer, musician, etc?

Puppet Rebellion: Ever since I started learning to play the guitar I have leaned strongly towards composing rather than learning other people’s songs. But I’d say in terms of the way their songs fit together I would describe my own writing style to be similar to The Cribs or maybe The Maccabees. I like playing more unusual chords and dual guitar stuff rather than the traditional rhythm and lead roles of two guitars.

AMBY: If you could invite three people to dinner who would you choose?

Puppet Rebellion: Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes – My absolute favorite Songwriter and a lyrical genius

Noel Gallagher – Oasis were the first band I really got into as a child and I’m a big fan of his song writing also.

Jose Mourinho – Manager of football team Real Madrid. Very charismatic and just someone that interests me.

AMBY: What’s your personal favourite track you’re produced thus far?

Puppet Rebellion: We’re in the process of recording a few right now, my favourite is probably ‘the greatest lie ever told’

AMBY: Who were the last three artists/bands you listened to?

Puppet Rebellion: The Joy Formidable, Clap your hands say yeah, Frightened Rabbit

AMBY: If you could tour with anyone, who would it be?

Puppet Rebellion: Frightened Rabbit – Absolutely love this band.

AMBY: What can we expect in the near future from Puppet Rebellion?

Puppet Rebellion: More great songs and live performances!

AMBY: Tell AMBY something you’ve never told anyone before.

Puppet Rebellion: I can read people’s minds.
