Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Tripwires

TripwiresReading, UK’s Tripwires formed back in 2007 and are now soon releasing their debut record Spacehopper in June! After hearing their addictive song Catherine, I Feel Sick, we wanted to learn more about all things Tripwires. In this interview, Tripwires talk to AMBY about their excitement for Grand Theft Auto V, touring another planet, and Spacehopper!

AMBY: Hello Tripwires, please introduce yourselves to AMBY!

Tripwires: Hello we are Rhys Joe Ben and Sam, T-Unit.

AMBY: What’s the band been up to lately?

Tripwires: We’re on tour at the moment heading up to Sheffield and just stopped via Sam’s Nan’s house for some tea and cakes. Ben is driving and we’re currently listening to Yo la Tengo but gonna have to stop AGAIN cos someone needs a piss AGAIN.

AMBY: You will be releasing your record Spacehopper in June. Which tracks are your faves?

Tripwires: The quiet ones and the loud ones, the songs that make you feel high and the ones that make you feel low, the smooth ones, the rough ones, the ones that sound underwater, the throbbing ones, the spinny ones, the poppy ones and the RAWK ones.

AMBY: What’s the funniest thing to happen to you as a band?

Tripwires: It was probably the night we were meant to meet our producer in New York. We were lost and all our phones had died, all we knew was that we had to go east but had no idea which way that was. After about 15mins of sitting on the floor trying to work out what to do a man whips out a mat and starts praying directly next us, with that we got up and started walking.

AMBY: Catherine, I Feel Sick is great song! What’s the song behind it?

Tripwires: It’s about how people change as they grow up, it’s supposed to be funny.

AMBY: If you had to describe each member in the band with one word, which word would define them?

Tripwires: Rhys: twat, Joe: twat, Ben: twat, Sam: twat

AMBY: What is the best song of the year so far?

Tripwires: Monomania by Deerhunter.

AMBY: Which bands have been your biggest influences?

Tripwires: Bands who aren’t afraid to write such sparse songs alongside those which could burst your eardrums.

AMBY: If you could tour anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Tripwires: Japan because that would be the closest we could get to touring another planet.

AMBY: What has you excited for 2013?

Tripwires: Our record coming out and the release of Grand Theft Auto V.

AMBY: And last but never least, what’s something about Tripwires that nobody knows?

Tripwires: Sam is half Brazilian.

Thank you Tripwires, for giving us your answers!
