We just can’t get enough of all these amazing acts coming out of Adelaide! Earthquake Weather are one of these bands to watch out for. Their debut single This December carries swaying vocals in its verses, yet maintains to hold a great energy throughout the entire track. Stating their band interest is “music all the way baby!”, how could we not take a liking to them? AMBY had a chat with Earthquake Weather about grunge bands, breeding rare Japanese fighting-fish, and more so have a read!
AMBY: Hello Earthquake Weather! How are you doing?
Earthquake Weather: We are doing great thanks AMBY, just keeping busy in our own little world!
AMBY: Who are Earthquake Weather? Please introduce yourselves to AMBY.
Earthquake Weather: We are a 4 piece band consisting of singer/guitarist Jordan, lead guitarist Chris, bass player Joe and drummer James.
AMBY: Does hailing from Adelaide, Australia have an influence on your sound? If so, how?
Earthquake Weather: I don’t think it really influences our sound too much. Our sound has come from many different influences, both Australian and International. Where we are from has probably more influenced our overall ethos as a band. Adelaide is only a small city in Australia and I think themes associated with living in a small town can sometimes come up in our songs.
AMBY: What’s the story behind the name Earthquake Weather?
Earthquake Weather: We actually got the name Earthquake Weather from the first line in our song ‘This December’. We’d been sitting on a few other ideas for band names that were ok, but once Earthquake Weather got suggested, we all knew that was the right choice for us. It may sound odd that we got our name from one of our own songs, but we really like the concept. By doing it this way, our music kinda gave us our name.
AMBY: Your single This December is contagious! What’s the track about?
Earthquake Weather: Thanks! We like our songs to be interpreted individually. The track for us is mostly about moving on from something you have been down about, that moment where you have to accept the past to move forward. However there are a few lines in the song that are left open to interpretation. If someone gets something else out of the lyrics, that’s fine by us.
AMBY: We know This December was inspired by a few 90’s grunge bands. So, if you could hang out with any of these influences for a day, who would you choose?
Earthquake Weather: I’m sure we would all have different opinions here but if it were possible, I wouldn’t be able to pass up hanging out with Nirvana. Kurt Cobain is a major influence on me as an artist. I love his voice and the bands raw emotion. It’s just tragic he decided to end his life so young. Daniels Johns from Silverchair would also be a cool person to hang out with for a day! So many questions to ask him!
AMBY: What are the top five things on your bucket list?
Earthquake Weather: As a band? If music were to become a viable career for us, my bucket list would be complete.
AMBY: What do you do outside of music for fun?
Earthquake Weather: I guess we are pretty standard twenty-something year old guys. We like going out for a few drinks with our friends on weekends, sometimes a few too many drinks…. We are all into various sports, mainly ‘Australian rules football’ (look it up). We all like to travel when we get the chance. Chris breeds rare Japanese fighting-fish, but he’s the only one.
AMBY: What’s next for the band?
Earthquake Weather: We are a pretty new band, I guess for now we’d just like to continue gaining momentum/exposure off the back of this first single. We are also currently in the process of filming the video clip for ‘This ‘December’ (keep a look out!).
AMBY: For the year so far, what’s your favourite release?
Earthquake Weather: It would have to be out of Frightened Rabbit’s ‘The Woodpile’ or The Preatures ‘Is this how you feel’.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Earthquake Weather that nobody knows yet?
Earthquake Weather: Well as I said before we are such a new band, I imagine any fact would be something no one knows yet! So to answer, no one knows Earthquake Weather are a serious band yet.
Thank you Earthquake Weather, for giving us your answers!
