With brilliant sixties-sounding harmonies hit with some attitude, Philadelphia trio Bleeding Rainbow have made a seriously awesome sound for themselves. Their music carries beautiful hints of psychedelic trances which are sewn into their hook-laden choruses. Releasing their latest album Yea Right earlier this year, AMBY thought it was a great time to catch up with Bleeding Rainbow. So, have a read as we spoke about recording a new album, guitar amps catching on fire, and how they’re all from Mars!

AMBY: Hello Bleeding Rainbow! Thanks for having a chat with AMBY, what have you been up to lately?

Bleeding Rainbow: Hi! Currently we are in our 6th week of tour. Headed back to Philly. Its been a blast!

AMBY: You have recently released your latest album Yeah Right. Which tracks are your favourites?

Bleeding Rainbow: My favorites are “Pink Ruff”, “You’re Not Alone”, and “Waking Dream”. Those are some of the most fun to play live as well.

AMBY: What’s the story behind your terrific song Waking Dream?

Bleeding Rainbow: Waking Dream is all about escaping normal life. The music video that Sarah directed for the song is also pretty explicit about what the song is supposed to get across.

AMBY: Who influences you as a songwriters and musicians?

Bleeding Rainbow: A lot of older music from the 70s, 80s, and 90s influences us. Recently we’ve been listening to a lot of Half Japanese. There approach to making music is really inspiring.

AMBY: Which three albums changed your life?

Bleeding Rainbow: For me personally I’d have to say Jimi Hendrix – Axis: Bold as Love, Foo Fighters(self titled), Smashing Pumpkins – Siamese Dream. When I was a teenager, these were the ones I would play over and over again. Totally obsessed with each of them. I’d have these on repeat on my Walkman looking out the van on our family trips. haha

AMBY: What’s the funniest thing to happen to you at a gig?

Bleeding Rainbow: Oh man, well recently while we were on tour this past month, Al’s guitar amp caught on fire! I had never seen anything like it!

AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?

Bleeding Rainbow: Recently we’ve been listening to a lot of Half Japanese, Husker Du, and Jesus Lizard.

AMBY: What do you do outside of music for fun?

Bleeding Rainbow: Music is my life.

AMBY: What song could you live without ever hearing again?

Bleeding Rainbow: Lit – My Own Worst Enemy.

AMBY: What has you excited for 2013?

Bleeding Rainbow: Recording a new album!

AMBY: If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

Bleeding Rainbow: That’s a really heavy question that I don’t want to give a really heavy answer to. There’s too much fucked up stuff going on.

AMBY: And last but never least, what’s something about Bleeding Rainbow that nobody knows?

Bleeding Rainbow: We are all from Mars.

Thank you Bleeding Rainbow, for giving us your answers!
