Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Gold & Youth

Gold & YouthIndie-electronic band Gold & Youth is comprised of Vancouver’s Matthew Lyall, Murray Mckenzie, Jeff Mitchelmore, and Louise Burns. With the recent release of their debut album Beyond Wilderness, AMBY caught up with Gold & Youth to talk about the record, finding moisturizers, and touring!

AMBY: Hello Gold & Youth! Thanks for having a chat with AMBY, what have you been up to lately?

Gold & Youth: Hey AMBY. We have been getting prepped for our east coast tour, writing new material and trying to find the perfect moisturizer for Murray.

AMBY: How would you describe your sound to those unfamiliar with your music?

Gold & Youth: I hear our music described using blade runner references often, so lets say if the blade runner soundtrack were to be placed over Body Heat, the movie. Make sense

AMBY: You have just released your debut album Beyond Wilderness. Which tracks are your favourites?

Gold & Youth: Tan Lines because it reminds me of Freur’s “Doot Doot”

AMBY: What’s the story behind your excellent song Jewel?

Gold & Youth: Thanks! It’s about displacement. And my passion for Kathleen Turner.

AMBY: What’s the funniest thing to happen to you at a gig?

Gold & Youth: I guess dancing and playing on one leg after I injured my leg must have looked pretty hilarious…

AMBY: What would a movie based on the band be called?

Gold & Youth: “There’s something about Jeff”

AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?

Gold & Youth: Abner Jay. Going back in time.

AMBY: If you had to describe each member in the band with one word, which word would define them?

Gold & Youth: Murray– astronomy, Matt – Arabia, Jeff – Triumphant, Louise – Cane

AMBY: What is the best song of the year so far?

Gold & Youth: Anxietys Door by Merchandise

AMBY: What has you excited for the rest of 2013?

Gold & Youth: Touring! Seeing friends, heading overseas, just very happy to have the record out.

AMBY: And last but never least, what’s something about Gold & Youth that nobody knows?

Gold & Youth: I can’t tell you that. We are building a mystery.

Thank you Gold & Youth, for giving us your answers!
