Getting Cozy With… Kapitan!

KapitanHello Canadians and readers of A Music Blog Yea?We’re Kapitan from Teesside in the UK. If you’re unfamiliar with it, Teesside is a place born out of industry in the North East of England which is disconnected from pretty much everywhere else which means we have a plethora of both beauty and bleak all around us, we also say ‘like’ at the end of our sentences. Like

We’re inspired by bands like Mogwai, Beefheart, Pixies, Beta Band, Joy Division and suchlike. I don’t think we sound like them but we try to experiment as much as we can in our music. The lineup is Lee Parnell on vocals, Matt McGough on guitar, Tony McKenna on bass and Ben Rutherford on drums and we’ve had 3 releases, Seven Seas (2012), vis-a-vis Kounellis (an artrock reaction to the artist Jannis Kounellis’ exhibition at a modern art museum – 2013) and Years In The Wilderness, an EP that we’ve just self released. That was recorded in an abandoned art gallery in nearby Newcastle and we launched it with a special intimate gig in our Stockton-on-Tees base.

We’ve got a few more tricks up our sleeve for the rest of the year, watch this space…

Yours in feedback and delay pedals,
