Melbourne’s Dylan Thorpe, Kiri O’Connor, Richard Bowers, and Michael Hales are Magic Bones, a band bringing attitude and youth into their firey music. To learn more about the band, AMBY spoke with Magic Bones about dream collaborations, top live shows, The Smiths or The Cure, and touring!

AMBY: Hello Magic Bones, please introduce yourselves to AMBY.

Magic Bones: Hello AMBY, we’re a Melbourne band called Magic Bones who are responsible for making “Fire Song”. If you have a short attention span and like music that gives you a good hard shake then you’ll probably like us.

AMBY: What’s the band been up to lately?

Magic Bones: Recording, mixing, arguing, loving, planning and filming! We’re stoked to be working on a new film clip for ‘Fire Song’ and planning our next tour for September/ October across the great southern land.

AMBY: Fire Song has a ton of energy and attitude. What’s the story behind the song?

Magic Bones: The song’s a story of the love between two people that never quite gave each other what they need and the frustration of trying to make the other happy. It’s that frustrated energy that sizzles up in the recording.

AMBY: The band released the video for Once You Forget back in April. Are there plans to create another music video?

Magic Bones: Hell yes, we’re currently working on the film clip for ‘Fire Song’ right now. It’s going to be a firey affair!

AMBY: Where did the name Magic Bones come from?

Magic Bones: We wanted a name that captured something organic, and even slightly mystic. Kind of like a fortune teller or medicine man reading the bones just thrown on the forest floor. We just liked the sound and image of it when it was said really.

AMBY: What has the band been listening to this summer?

Magic Bones: New albums from Queens of the Stoneage, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Pond, The Hives, The Strokes, Toy, Ty Segal, Tame Impala, Foxygen, Big Scary, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.

AMBY: Who would you most like to collaborate with?

Magic Bones: Right now I’d have to say Josh Homme. The guy’s a frikkin’ genius in all musical sensitivities.

AMBY: What are the top live shows you’ve seen in your life?

Magic Bones: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Nick would have to be my definition of the word ‘conviction’.

AMBY: The Smiths or The Cure?

Magic Bones: The Cure!

AMBY: What’s next for Magic Bones?

Magic Bones: Touring! It’s just something we love to keep giving ourselves reasons to do. Best way to travel. Plus we’re pretty excited to be working on the video for this song.

AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Magic Bones that nobody knows yet?

Magic Bones: One of us is a Doctor…
