Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ In The Valley Below

In The Valley BelowCalifornia “indie dusk” duo In The Valley Below (Jeffrey Jacob & Angela Gail) kick off their tour with White Lies tomorrow, starting at Toronto’s The Opera House. Before the busy tour, A Music Blog, Yea? spoke with In The Valley Below about drunk admirers, singing about monkeys, and the Peaches EP! Have a read below:

AMBY: Hello In The Valley Below! What have you been up to lately?

In The Valley Below: We’re getting ready to tour for the rest of the year, brewing some beer and making videos in the dark.

AMBY: Which three words would describe your music the best?

In The Valley Below: Sultry, Dynamic, Submerged.

AMBY: On October 1st you begin playing some shows with White Lies. What are you most looking forward to?

In The Valley Below: Canada, Poland, Scandinavia. Getting above of 35˚ N

AMBY: What’s the funniest thing to happen to you while at a gig?

In The Valley Below: Our drummer typically has a drunk admirer in the front row dancing and breaking glasses.

AMBY: Peaches is a great song, accompanied by a neat and original video. How did you create the concept for the video?

In The Valley Below: It was a combination of a charming spec video that the director made, and the photography of a friend we admired. The location was a magical place called the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, California. We felt it represented us well, and we were right at home there.

AMBY: Which song off the Peaches EP is your favourite, and why?

In The Valley Below: “Stand Up” because we sing about monkeys.

AMBY: What did you listen to growing up, and what have you been listening to lately?

In The Valley Below: We both grew up with our parents’ classic rock and 90’s rock. Lately we’ve been listening to a mixture of Heart and Sigur Ros.

AMBY: If you could invite any three people to record an album with, who would you pick?

In The Valley Below: Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Prince.

AMBY: What’s next as far as releases go?

In The Valley Below: Our full album “The Belt” comes out in 2014.

AMBY: What’s the best release of the year?

In The Valley Below: I am sure we missed a lot of great new music, but we like Laura Marling’s Once I Was An Eagle.

AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about In The Valley Below that nobody knows yet?

In The Valley Below: We’re all gay socialist polygamists.
