Brisbane’s electronic-dance makers Pigeon lured us in with their upbeat indie-dance single Curtain Call and incredible Daft Punk medley. In a recent interview, A Music Blog, Yea? had the chance of catching up with Pigeon’s Luke Cuerel about quirky rodents of the sky, upcoming covers, and how they’re social media junkies. Dive into our chat below:
AMBY: Hello Pigeon, please introduce yourselves to AMBY’s readers.
Pigeon: Hey I’m Luke from Electronic/rock/dance/party band Pigeon out of Brisbane. We like sunsets, long walks on the beach and talking about our feelings.
AMBY: How would you describe your sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
Pigeon: What you would listen to if you frequented sexy dark tropical underground cult rave parties. With heaps of brass.
AMBY: How’s the Curtain Call East Coast Tour going so far?
Pigeon: Excellent, currently gearing up to play a show in Sydney tonight. I’ve had a bunch of fun, and stayed up way past my normal bed time (don’t tell mum).
AMBY: What’s your favourite part of touring?
Pigeon: Being involved in music constantly. We all have pretty unhealthy caffeine and music addictions, so touring lets us do both pretty comfortably.
AMBY: Curtain Call is a magical dance track! What inspired the song?
Pigeon: We were aiming for something pretty different to our usual stuff, darker and heavier, while still having a bit of a Pigeon vibe to it. Electro slap bass filth is the end result.
AMBY: What’s the story behind the name Pigeon?
Pigeon: We honestly just really liked the word. Maybe we subconsciously identified with the strange and quirky rodents of the sky.
AMBY: What are your rehearsals usually like? Does the band have a set time to practice or are rehearsals more off-the-cuff?
Pigeon: We go between having a routine, to basically whenever we can get there. Two of the guys in the band own a studio, and we hang out there as much as possible to make music, drink beer and just have general shenanigans.
AMBY: Your Daft Punk cover medley has had great success. Can we expect any other covers or medleys in the future?
Pigeon: Maybe… We love the process of working out covers, and the Daft Punk one turned out to go really well for us. We have a cover or two up our sleeve, might possibly whip it out in a live set soon.
AMBY: What’s the best release of the year?
Pigeon: I’m really vibing on “Atlas” by Rufus, I think there’s a heap of really cool tracks on the album.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Pigeon that nobody knows yet?
Pigeon: We are Social media junkies. Totally addicted.
Thank you Pigeon, for giving us your answers!
