A Music Blog, Yea? recently caught up with Los Angeles’ Y LUV. With music described as “a magic train ride on acid” and “the dissipation of the ego” being their songwriting inspiration, the band reveal quite a few cheeky answers in our Q&A. So what are you waiting for? Have a read and spread the Y LUV.
AMBY: Hello Y LUV, cheers for speaking with us today. How would you describe your sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
Y LUV: A magic train ride on acid.
AMBY: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration?
Y LUV: The dissipation of the ego.
AMBY: What are your rehearsals usually like? Does the band have a set time to practice or are rehearsals more off-the-cuff?
Y LUV: They’re not scheduled regularly, but we get in and play together about twice a week. We’d tell you what they’re like, but then we’d have to kill you.
AMBY: You released your EP Take The Ride back in May. What’s the response been like to it so far?
Y LUV: Indubitable.
AMBY: What’s the story behind the name Y LUV, and had you considered any other names for the band?
Y LUV: Neil Young and Crazy Horse was already taken.
AMBY: How did you create the concept for your All I Wanna Do video?
Y LUV: Desert + psychedelics + a feeling you feel at different times not all the time but it always feels the same and it’s so real and amazing.
AMBY: What’s the craziest thing to happen to the band at a gig?
Y LUV: Sam launching off the amp onto Freddy’s head and Luke was wearing a dress (true story).
AMBY: Does hailing from Los Angeles have an influence on your sound? And if so, how?
Y LUV: We play with and see so many talented acts all the time. It pushes us to be better.
AMBY: We know the band are Arctic Monkeys fans and are digging their new LP. But who else have you been listening to lately?
Y LUV: Kendrick Lamar “Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City” is amazing. We saw him at Bonnaroo and he is electric.
AMBY: If you could choose to have your music featured in any movie or show, which would you choose?
Y LUV: A movie about documenting the life and times of us or Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 3. Preferably the two movie ideas would combine and become a documentary of us set in the Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs world.
AMBY: What’s the best release of the year so far?
Y LUV: This or Arctic Monkeys – A.M.
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Y LUV that nobody knows yet?
Y LUV: Where we’ll be in 5 years.
