Golden State released their latest single World On Fire on September 30th. And A Music Blog, Yea? had the opportunity of catching up with the Los Angeles, aternative pop-rock quartet to find out what’s on the horizon, the new single, soundtracks, and the origins of the band.
AMBY: Hello Golden State! How is the band doing, and what have you been up to lately?
Golden State: Hello! The band is doing great. Just rocking and rolling.
AMBY: The talent in the and is incredible between the four of you. And we know that two members were formally in other bands (The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Paloalto). So, how did the band meet?
Golden State: I met Marc when Paloalto wagon tour with Supergrass in Chicago and we really hit it off and he always told me we were going to be in a band together. Sure enough he moved to Los Angeles and the rest is history. Marc then introduced me to the slippery long hair ( formerly of RJSA ) on bass, Elias a year later and then of course came our fearless drummer Kemble Walter of (Julliet and the licks, Ages, fame ) We were set. All the components where there and the planets aligned. Golden State was ready for lift off.
AMBY: Which songs off of your Subdivision EP are your favourite?
Golden State: All of them have a special place with me but for the live experience I’d say Bombs. The feeling when that chorus hits is epic ( if I do say so myself, ha! )
AMBY: Your new single World On Fire came out on September 30th. What’s the story behind the track?
Golden State: Ok you ready for this? prepare to get your mind blown… World on fire paints a picture of a dystopian future that has been foreseen and pursued by the Fabian Socialist Society and their view of the world much like a firey ball of melted steel that needs to be manipulated and transformed into their desires and by doing so puts the human race at risk of world oppression so it is up to us to put a stop to the madness… but really its just a love song.
AMBY: What’s next as far as releases go?
Golden State: One step at a time, one step at a time. There is so much to choose from but I guess that a good thing.
AMBY: Many of yours songs have been used in TV series and movie soundtracks. If you could choose to have your music featured in any movie or show, which would you choose?
Golden State: Would love to write an original or be featured on the TV show LUTHER.
AMBY: Music stimulates a variety of senses; do any senses stand out as triggers to inspire your music?
Golden State: All the senses. There is a theme song for everything. You could be walking down the street and a sound, smell or something you see can make you feel either nostalgic or modern that brings inspiration.
AMBY: You are allowed to say one sentence, which will reach the whole world. What would you say?
Golden State: “It is our choices, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
AMBY: What’s the best release of the year?
Golden State: I’m really digging the latest Beady Eye track “Flick of the finger”
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about Golden State that nobody knows yet?
Golden State: I’m about to eat breaky!
Thank you Golden State, for giving us your answers!
