Glasgow trio The Fratellis are known for their energetic, melodious, and quick-witted rock and roll. Shortly after the band came off of their US, UK, and European tours, we were lucky enough to speak with lead vocalist and guitarist Jon Fratelli during the holiday break! Releasing their third blues-rock record We Need Medicine back in October, we were honoured to chat about comic inspiration, their early holiday gift, and how they’re way better than you think.
AMBY: Hello The Fratellis, thanks for taking the time to speak with AMBY. What’s the band been up to lately?
The Fratellis: We’ve just finished touring the US, UK and Europe which all went swimmingly. Now we are sleeping…
AMBY: Your third record We Need Medicine was released on October 7th. What’s the significance behind the album’s title?
The Fratellis: None at all, other than it’s the truth for most people I guess.
AMBY: What’s the reaction to the record been like so far?
The Fratellis: The only reaction we would ever pick up on is how things go down live and from my point of view I think the reaction has been mostly positive.
AMBY: Not only has We Need Medicine’s artwork taken over a comic look, but The Fratellis’ entire website has. What was the inspiration behind the new look?
The Fratellis: It’s really just a way standing out I guess, it looks way better than a picture of us ever could.
AMBY: You recently sent out a Christmas video where you gave fans two free downloads as an early Christmas gift. What were your plans to celebrate the holidays?
The Fratellis: Once I’ve woken up I’ll just try and get through the whole thing without too many mental scars, I always look forward toJan when life gets back to normal.
AMBY: What’s the funniest thing to happen to you while on tour?
The Fratellis: The funniest thing might be that nothing funny ever happens!
AMBY: Which Fratellis lyric is your favourite?
The Fratellis: I couldn’t possibly say, it’s not my job, but I’m almost certain that I like some of the lyrics on this record.
AMBY: What did you listen to growing up, and what have you been listening to lately?
The Fratellis: I’d give the same answer to both questions, Dylan, Springsteen, and Pink Floyd.
AMBY: If you could invite any three people to record an album with, who would you pick?
The Fratellis: Cream!
AMBY: And lastly, what’s something about The Fratellis that nobody knows yet?
The Fratellis: We’re way better than you think….
Thank you The Fratellis, for giving us your answers!
