You’ve GOT to Hear This: Puppet Rebellion – “NO MEANS YES”

Puppet RebellionI feel privileged that I have been given the opportunity to review the new EP from Manchester’s Puppet Rebellion.

I first stumbled upon the band via SoundCloud and their 1st EP ‘Chemical Friends’ which grabbed my attention from the 1st chords. My attention grew as the EP progressed until  ‘The New Twenty’, which completely blew me away and is rarely off my playlist now.

So how can the band top their last EP which has over 10,000 plays on SoundCloud? With their new EP ‘NO MEANS YES’, they have! The 5 track EP which includes 4 new songs (and a very good remix of Chemical Friends) has shown that the band have grown with there sound and confidence and have produced an outstanding EP which has not been off repeat since I received the EP.

‘Pirouette’, is the opener and will be stuck in your head for days with its catchy melody and lyrics, ‘Cupboards Painted Red’ follows up at a slightly slower pace and is a top contender for the stand out track, ‘Loner in Disguise’ is a track that’s full of enjoyable musical moments, and with lyrics like “you’re searching for someone to blame / but what are you hoping to change?”, it’s a hit in the making.

The band then hit us with ‘Green Eyed Monster’. With its heavy bass and drums from the start, topped off with Simon Monaghan vocals, this short 2.15 track will be a crowd pleaser at gigs and festivals alike.

Finally we are treated to ‘Chemical Friends Cai Caslavinieri remix’.  This remix works well on so many levels and adds to what I consider to be a fantastic EP from one of Manchester’s finest new band’s.

The new EP will be released on February 25th until then get your ears around ‘Chemical Friends’ below. The band’s EP launch will be on Saturday, February the 22nd at Gulliver’s in Manchester. Get your tickets here.
