Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Pixel Fix

Pixel Fix
The last time Pixel Fix were featured on A Music Blog, Yea? was near the release of their video for Fall; an atmospheric and soothing synth-pop track taken from their second EP. Since then, the Oxford-based quartet have embarked on their UK Tour, released Fall into the world, and dropped a new song titled Awake. To discuss all of the busyness, we caught up with Pixel Fix and spoke about the making of Fall, lyricism, Biggie Smalls, and drummers.

AMBY: Hello Pixel Fix, welcome to AMBY. Please introduce yourselves to our readers!

Pixel Fix: Hello, we are Pixel Fix, a four piece band from Oxford.

AMBY: Where did the name Pixel Fix come from, and what other names had you considered for the band?

Pixel Fix: We wish we had an elaborate story for how we got our name, but unfortunately Pixel Fix was a name that simply just stuck.

AMBY: How would you describe your sound to those unfamiliar with your music?

Pixel Fix: It’s difficult to say specifically, but we would describe our sound as ambient/electronic music molded with guitars.

AMBY: Your single Fall is great! How did the song come to be?

Pixel Fix: Thank you very much. Fall is a song that has been around for a long time, and was written right after the first EP. It began as an electronic piece, but after taking it to a rehearsal we started to experiment until it took shape to what it is today.

AMBY: The band released your second EP Fall in February. When creating the EP, what is your ultimate goal?

Pixel Fix: We didn’t like the idea of releasing a single on its own, we wanted to release a complete body of work so people could sink their teeth in. The two main tracks “Fall” and “Awake” are lyrically linked, so because of this we wanted the whole EP to link as one. The goal was for people to listen through the EP as one track, and have one listening experience going through the story of the EP.

AMBY: What is the significance behind the title Fall?

Pixel Fix: Fall describes not wanting to make mistakes that have been made before, so the significance of the title represents not wanting to fall back into the same situation.

AMBY: Has there ever been a song you wish you wrote? And if so, which song?

Pixel Fix: ‘Bring You Flowers’ by Sweet Female Attitude. Hooks and vibes.

AMBY: Which Pixel Fix lyric is your favourite?

Pixel Fix: “Open mouth to catch the rain” from Rosa.

AMBY: Who would your dream jam session be with?

Pixel Fix: That’s a difficult question, but Biggie Smalls would be sick.

AMBY: What was the best release of 2013?

Pixel Fix: There were so many good releases in 2013, so that’s quite a hard one. “6 Feet Beneath the Moon” by King Krule is pretty special.

AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Pixel Fix that nobody knows yet?

Pixel Fix: 3/4 of Pixel Fix are actually drummers.

Thank you Pixel Fix, for giving us your answers!
