Last featuring the trio in March, Toronto-based pop band Bordeen were highlighting their delightful single Broken Bones. Yesterday, the three Bordihn siblings (Brianna Bordihn, Daniel Bordihn, and Ryan Bordihn) dropped the brand-new video for the track! Ahead of its release, we spoke with Ryan to discuss new releases, their debut album, and being siblings. Check out the interview here:
AMBY: Hello Bordeen, welcome to AMBY. Please introduce yourselves to our readers!
Bordeen: Hello AMBY readers! We are Bordeen, an Indie Rock Band from Newmarket, Ontario. We are siblings that grew up in a family where music was a big part of our lives so naturally we started a band together. In all seriousness we had all been playing music the majority of our lives and as we got older we realized we should be playing music together.
AMBY: How would you describe each member of the band in one word?
Bordeen: Ryan- Philosophical, Daniel- Goodnatured, Brianna- Creative
AMBY: Do you find the dynamics of being siblings makes working together easier, or do you butt heads more often because of it?
Bordeen: Well it goes both ways. But overall we have a good relationship with each other and that helps us write music, and work together comfortably.
AMBY: What’s the story behind your latest single Broken Bones?
Bordeen: This song is about accepting a problem. Whether that problem is global, personal, or relational. It blurs the lines between relational dynamics and social issues. It’s about a longing for a peaceful way to resolve issues, and living our lives in a way that doesn’t tear others down.
AMBY: Your debut self-titled album was released last year. What are your thoughts on the record now that there’s been time to reflect on it?
Bordeen: Our debut album is something we are all really proud of. It takes a lot of time to write, record, and then release an album so when we think about the process we went through we think about it as a good experience. We grew as musician working with our producer Paul Carroll, and even working together as we did our first few shows was a growing experience for all of us. Albums are a snapshot of who you were musically at the time so we wouldn’t change anything.
AMBY: What’s next as far as recordings or releases go?
Bordeen: We are currently writing a lot and if you catch us live for our Summer Tour you’ll hear some of our unreleased material. But as far as releases go check back with us in the Fall.
AMBY: If you could trade places with another artist in the music industry for a day, who would it be?
Bordeen: That’s a tough one. There’s lots of artist that I’d love to meet or collaborate with, but trading places with. I’d have to say Dave Matthews. He has a killer band and it would be a thrill to play with them.
AMBY: Who have you been listening to lately?
Bordeen: London Grammar, Needtobreathe, Kings Of Leon, Foster The People, Tokyo Police Club, Coldplay.
AMBY: What’s the best song of 2014 so far?
Bordeen: It’s a toss up between “The Heart by Needtobreathe and “Strong” by London Grammar.
AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Bordeen that nobody knows yet?
Bordeen: Our parents actually thought that Daniel was the best singer out of the 3 of us growing up. But it is Brianna and I that are singing and waiting for Daniel to join us.
Thank you Bordeen, for giving us your answers!
