The Ramona Flowers are an alternative quintet hailing from Bristol, England. In a recent interview, A Music Blog, Yea? spoke with the band’s lead vocalist Steve Bird to discuss their debut album Dismantle and Rebuild (out July 14th), latest single Tokyo, falling into a drum skin, Vodka, and Bombay Bicycle Club. Here’s what he had to say:
AMBY: Hello The Ramona Flowers! Thanks for having a chat with AMBY, what have you been up to lately?
The Ramona Flowers: We have just been touring around Europe supporting Bombay Bicycle Club which was an amazing experience. We had a great time supporting a band we really admire and respect. Now, we are rehearsing.
AMBY: How would you describe each member of the band in one word?
The Ramona Flowers: Sam – Wise, Wayne – Funny, Dave – Aloof, Ed – Fidget
AMBY: Looking forward to your forthcoming debut album Dismantle And Rebuild, what can fans expect to hear from the LP?
The Ramona Flowers: Fans can expect songs with emotion and songs to get you dancing but with dark undertones, and also a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
AMBY: What is the significance behind the title Dismantle And Rebuild?
The Ramona Flowers: The title is significant because it’s how we write our songs more often than not. We will play live in the rehearsal room get an idea that we are all excited about then we will record it onto the computer in the studio through Ableton we will take out certain instruments from the original idea and manipulate the sounds with others until we get to the finished song that we are all happy with.
AMBY:What was one of the highlights you had while recording the new album?
The Ramona Flowers: I would say when we finally finished it and had the mixed and mastered CD in our hands. It was about 2 years hard work to get to that point, so it was a proud moment for all of us.
AMBY: Taken from the LP, your latest single Tokyo is great. What’s the story behind the song?
The Ramona Flowers: The song is about two people who have a have a really strong connection and one person is trying to fight it but the other person is not going to stop until they get together.
AMBY: Which artists have you been listening to lately?
The Ramona Flowers: Bipolar Sunshine, I saw him supporting Phoenix in Brixton and thought he was great. I’ve also been listening to a lot of Bombay Bicycle Club, I think their latest album is their best so far.
AMBY: What’s the funniest thing to happen to you at a gig?
The Ramona Flowers: When we were supporting Lamb in Warsaw, I tripped on a lead and fell head first into the drum skin during our last song. Of course all of the boys burst into laughter along with most of the crowd.
AMBY: What is your favourite song of the year so far?
The Ramona Flowers: Home By Now, Bombay Bicycle Club
AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about The Ramona Flowers that nobody knows?
The Ramona Flowers: Our pre gig drink is Vodka and orange.
Thank you The Ramona Flowers, for giving us your answers!
