Heymoonshaker have played stages all over the world and are now ready to invade America. Comprised of Andy BaLcon (vocals and guitar) and Dave Crowe (mouth percussion), the duo create heart-pounding rock and roll blues with the unique twist of beatboxing. Read our new interview with the group as we discuss dating websites, bigger beats, unique performances, and traveling.
AMBY: Hello Heymoonshaker, welcome to AMBY. What’s the band been up to lately?
Heymoonshaker: Hia, yes well we’ve been very busy this year, the beginning of the year we shared an air mattress in the nine volt leap studio for 3 weeks, then found ourselves lugging a wheel barrow of new songs around the U.S, but now we are sat in a hotel in flat land Germany, with the windows open before the cleaning lady comes in.
AMBY: How would you describe Heymoonshaker’s sound to those unfamiliar with your music?
Heymoonshaker: I’d say it sounds like 2 egos ejaculating over old records under a neon light.
AMBY: When it comes to your formation, how did a dirty blues rocker and a talented beatboxer come together?
Heymoonshaker: We met through a dating website in New Zealand, we arranged a date but never made it to 1st base.
AMBY: Your new album will be released later this year. What can fans expect to hear from the record?
Heymoonshaker: Oh errr… Well! I just got the new mixes this morning, so yeah! Bigger beats! New guitar tones! Riffs! And a tale of what’s happened the last two years!
AMBY: When will the album be released and what will it be titled?
Heymoonshaker: Still unsure! Firstly we need to find Crowes sketch book, we think it’s in Montreal.
AMBY: How do you feel you’ve evolved as a band since the release of your debut EP Shakerism?
Heymoonshaker: Well! We started writing songs, we kind of realised we couldn’t jam Madison square garden, well we were told we couldn’t! So the writing began, also, now we have actually found a sound, when we wrote Shakerism we did so with little time or money, but the beginning of this year was great to really get everything on the table.
AMBY: The band is well known for your unusual and unique performances. What inspires the drive behind making your shows so different?
Heymoonshaker: The idea is to try and connect with enough people so they understand what we are saying, and get them feeling sexy, we are all sexy, it’s just a switch.
AMBY: What is the funniest thing to happen to you at one of your gigs?
Heymoonshaker: Hmmm… The first 2 years have been full of story’s, I think the biggest one was in Switzerland when 200 sat on the floor below a bridge after the power went out on stage, we played acoustic to a blacked out city (Lausanne).
AMBY: If you could create a law that everyone would have to follow, what would it be?
Heymoonshaker: If anything I’d take the laws away, people act up to rules, we played Fusion festival Germany and there was no security, there was also no trouble.
AMBY: What do you do outside of music for fun?
Heymoonshaker: Skateboard, draw, read err, to be honest there is little time outside music and traveling, but we had our fix when traveling.
AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Heymoonshaker that nobody knows yet?
Heymoonshaker: Hmmm.. Heymoonshaker was an imaginary band.
Thank you Heymoonshaker, for giving us your answers!
