The acoustic duo Winter in Toronto were good enough to play AMBY a song last September as they showcased their track “What Would You Have Me Do?”. Now into their second year as a band Londoners Ellis Mizen and Cameron Pickard are looking to make their mark on the music scene.
And to help them do it they have revisited an older track “Pen Y Fan” rerecording it with a fuller production sound that’s nevertheless very much in keeping with their acoustic roots. The two singers voices blend beautifully and there is just an echo of Wild Beasts in the way their vocals combine. Inspired by a mountain in Wales the track hits something of a peak in sound as it builds to a guitar instrumental at the halfway point of its 6 minutes plus running time, before easing safely back down its other side.
The reworked song has wracked up an impressive 5000 plays on sound cloud in just a month and is garnering the band fresh attention from the likes of BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson via his Fresh On The Net site as well as the folks at Amazing Radio. With that sort of interest 2014 could well be the year the band deliver on their evident promise.
