Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Betty Moon

Betty Moon
Toronto-born/Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, producer, and filmmaker Betty Moon released her sixth record Amourphous earlier this year. To learn more about the album and artist herself, we caught up with Betty Moon and discussed quintessential songs, inspiration from Shakespeare, and Amourphous.

AMBY: Hello Betty, welcome to our site. What have you been up to lately?

Betty Moon: Thanks for having me! Right now I’m gearing up for a whole whack of shows along with working on some new music.

AMBY: With six albums now under your belt, which three songs would you say are the quintessential Betty Moon?

Betty Moon: I’d say Rollin’ Revolution, Drink Your Fears, and Hide.  That could change tomorrow though.

AMBY: You recently released your new album Amourphous. What was the experience like recording the new album?

Betty Moon: I had a lot of fun.  These were all songs I had drifting in space that I couldn’t finish for one reason or another.  But together they completed a story and that became extremely satisfying to me as a writer. I produced and mixed all of it save for “Valentine” which was mixed by Chris Lord Algae.

AMBY: When it comes to the title, what inspired you to call the album Amourphous?

Betty Moon: I feel I’m in a transitional period, musically.  This collection of songs in essence displays that.

AMBY: What’s the story behind the record’s single Valentine?

Betty Moon: I drew a little bit of inspiration from Shakespeare and made it something new. It’s a very pure and simple story of love.

AMBY: Which other artists from Toronto should we keep our eyes on?

Betty Moon: Hard to choose just one.

AMBY: Where would you go in a time machine?

Betty Moon: Most likely into the future…definitely not the past. What if the time machine stayed in the moment? The true center of time. That would suit me fine.

AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Betty Moon that nobody knows yet?

Betty Moon: I do needlepoint. I don’t know…tennis anyone? I’m really good with balls.

Thank you Betty Moon, for giving us your answers!
