Gimme Your Answers: An Interview w/ Goldroom

Performing under the pseudonym Goldroom, Los Angeles’ artist Josh Legg is known for his tropical-infused lush electronic arrangements and remixes. Recently unveiling his new single Till Sunrise — his first original release since dropping Embrace in September 2013 — Goldroom took the time to speak with A Music Blog, Yea? to discuss his upcoming full-length, falling in love with songwriting, terrific remixes, and a secret acoustic album.

AMBY: Hello Goldroom, cheers for chatting with us today. The band is currently creating a full-length album. Is there a working title or release date for the record yet?

Goldroom: Not yet, but I’m really happy with the music that I’ve been able to put together. I’ve had the chance to write some music with some amazing people and I can’t wait to hear what people think.

AMBY: What’s the experience been like recording the new album so far?

Goldroom: It’s been fantastic. I’ve been making a real push to get myself willing to open myself up in my songwriting, and I think that the new batch of songs really reflects that. I’ve had the chance to do a lot of writing while on tour, which has been amazing. Doing sessions in Europe or Australia has really made me fall in love with songwriting all over again.

AMBY: Known for your terrific remixes, which one would you say is your personal favourite to date?

Goldroom: That’s so hard to pick! I think maybe my remix for Lancelot – We Can Dance. In some ways that remix ended up defining a lot of what Goldroom would come to be. Its not my most popular remix, but I think it was important.

AMBY: With festival season right around the corner, if you could curate your own festival, where would it take place and who would be in the line-up?

Goldroom: Well, it would definitely be on the beach, probably somewhere in a remote part of Mexico. I’m not sure who I’d want to play there, but it would absolutely be a mix of live acts and DJ sets stretching into the night.

AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Goldroom that nobody knows yet?

Goldroom: Well, how about that I have an album of acoustic guitar/singer songwriter style songs that I’ve never shown anyone… and probably never will!

Thank you Goldroom, for giving us your answers!
