You’ve GOT to Hear This: WDSTCK – “Your Answer”

WDSTCKNorwegian up-and-comers WDSTCK (pronounced ‘woodstock‘) are beginning to make a name for themselves, both across their native Norway and slightly further afield – quite an achievement for a band whose first single hit the internet only three months ago! Featured as a Single of the Week in a major UK newspaper with ‘Music Makes Me Feel’, and playlisted by youth-focused radio station P3 in their home country, they cite pioneers of ‘modern pop’ as their influences, including the likes of Prince, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin.

The three-piece from Bergen started as a duo, and were joined by lead vocalist Didrik Thulin purely by chance. From that meeting, WDSTCK was born, as was single ‘Flowers’. It’s snowballed since there. Thus far, their style is similar to the likes of The Other Tribe, Tensnake and Skogsrå with slick nu-disco dance beats.

Their latest offering, ‘Your Answer’, is no exception. Taking inspiration from Goldroom’s incredible remix of Wunder Wunder’s ‘Coastline’, their newest track is an excellent slice of chilled electronica that makes the all-nighter a little easier to deal with. If you’re looking for something to take you from day to night, back to day again, wack this on your playlist. Thulin’s vocals are perfectly complementing of the keys and guitar from bandmates [Simen Thunes] Hope and [Mats] Brown, creating a five-and-a-half minute epic that’s perfect from sun-up to sun-down.

As they said in an interview with P3, they only stop hearing the music when they sleep, and they always dance when they’re awake. That’s a mantra I can live with.
