In the midst of My Type‘s release, the band took the time to chat with us about Summerland Studios, great music from LA, and the big bang. Enjoy!

AMBY: Hey Saint Motel, thanks for speaking with us today. To get acquainted, how would you describe each member of the band in one word?

Saint Motel: Sharp – Shredder, Dak – Mysterious, Greg – Banger, A/J – Sexy

AMBY: Which three songs are the quintessential Saint Motel?

Saint Motel: 1. First Track, 2. Everything In Between, 3. Last Track

AMBY: You released your My Type EP on August 17th. What was one of the highlights you had while recording it?

Saint Motel: We escaped up the California coast a bit to record.  A place called Summerland Studios near Santa Barbara.  It was absolute magic!  We took over a house for a week or so and made jamz all day long.

AMBY: What’s the significance behind the title My Type?

Saint Motel: You mean for the EP?  It’s the title of the first single.  As far as the track, we named it that because it’s the main lyric.  As far as the lyric…well, that’s a long story.

AMBY: Which other artists from Los Angeles should we keep our eyes on?

Saint Motel: Loads of great music coming out of LA these days.  Check out James Supercave, Haim, YNG Cult, Y LUV, Irontom, Fitz and the Tantrums, Capital Cities, Wildcat Wildcat, Nico Vega, Nicky Blitz, soooo many.

AMBY: If you could be a fly on the wall at any given time or event, where would you want to be?

Saint Motel: The big bang.  What existed before?  What caused it?

AMBY: Describe your dream gig and who would be on the bill with you.

Saint Motel: Hmmm, collaborating with Bowie would be rad!

AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Saint Motel that nobody knows yet?

Saint Motel: We’re pregnant.
