Wildfire dance-rock artist Luxley plays Toronto’s Kool Haus on Thursday the 16th as support for Bombay Bicycle Club and Milo Greene. Set to release his upcoming EP Spirit in early 2015, we spoke with Luxley to discuss touring with Bombay Bicycle Club, rad soundtracks, dance moves, and the upcoming EP.
AMBY: Hey Luxley, welcome to our website! Please introduce yourselves to our readers.
Luxley: HEY! My name is Ryan Gray, and I started Luxley in New Orleans about 2 years ago while I was in medical school. With the support of a friend of mine (now manager) named Sky McElroy, the project began to take on full-form when I decided to shift the direction away from post-rock and into more dance. We currently have 3 other musicians from Louisiana coming on tour with me to share the stage with Bombay Bicycle Club and Milo Greene.
AMBY: You’re back on-stage and touring with Bombay Bicycle Club and Milo Greene. What do you look forward to most?
Luxley: The new crowds and hanging with the bands. Hands down.
AMBY: What are three quintessential items to have with you while on tour?
Luxley: A rad soundtrack for the road (we’ve been jamming to everything from metal to Foals and Friendly Fires to the Backstreet Boys), something that reminds you of home, and Siri.
AMBY: You’ll soon release your new EP Spirit in early 2015! How has the recording been so far?
Luxley: Having had to write the record by myself and help direct the recording of most of the 5 songs with another producer, Ayad Al-Adhamy, and an engineer Justin Gerrish in New York without an actual band has required a lot of hard work and persistence. The songs are in the mixing phase and I can already say that I am happy with how it’s coming out so far.
AMBY: What can we expect to hear from the forthcoming release?
Luxley: Good vibes. xoxo.
AMBY: I’ve noticed that you often tell fans “dance with us”. What’s your favourite dance move?
Luxley: Right now, I would have to say it’s the Jazz Hands I do during a song called Tremors. Look out for it.
AMBY: What would a movie based on the band be called?
AMBY: Lastly, what’s something about Luxley that nobody knows yet?
Luxley: I used to be a screamer in a hardcore band.
Thank you Luxley, for giving us your answers!
