Concert Review + Photos: Copper Lungs, Our Future Glory, + Charlotte Brimner @ Buskers – Dundee

Copper Lungs
Dundee has always had a presence in the music scene with the likes of Snow Patrol, The View, and 70’s funk and R&B band Average White Band originating from the city; and it’s great to see that this presence is still going strong with the three acts I witnessed last Saturday. This co-headline show of Copper Lungs and Our Future Glory with Charlotte Brimner supporting was a fine experience to see the future talents of Dundee.

Charlotte Brimner
Starting the night off was the wonderful Charlotte Brimner who opened up with a personal favorite of mine “HeadSpace” before following onto “Monster” and a new untitled song. With her acoustic guitar and smooth voice sounding perfect in front of the excited crowd, Charlotte continued on pulling out a superb cover of “Shake It Off” adding the Brimner twist to it and getting the crowd into the zone ready for the headline acts. With this perfect set she is on her way up the music ladder with a great future ahead alongside her recent announcement of a SXSW performance.

Our Future Glory
Next up was one of the headline acts, Our Future Glory, who are fresh off of a summer festival run of T In The Park, Belladrum and Wickerman. A great summer of 2014 for them and a great set from them, as they fired through their songs with an unbeatable amount of energy, especially from the lead singer as he darts back and forth from stage to crowd. They were in their element as they played “Manda Hill”, the electro synth mixed with talented drumming and a chorus of voices from the 3-piece. Bloc-Party-esque “King Utopia” was triumphant with the crowd as they pushed closer and closer to the stage. Overall an energetic and effective performance from Our Future Glory, leaving many of the fans begging for more and waiting on the arrival of the other headliners Copper Lungs.

As they step on stage the excitement could be seen within each of the band members faces, this was the hometown gig and would soon be one of their best to date. A quick hello and thank you from lead singer Darren Lindsay, as they bounce into the first few songs of the set. As each song progressed the crowd grew louder and the smiles grew bigger. Some small talk between songs allowed the band to gather the happiness and allow the crowd to catch a breath, just like Our Future Glory, these lads were in their element. When they unleash new single “Cloud Nine” this harmonic sound gets the crowd bouncing along to the strong Scottish accent that can be heard throughout, with great guitar rifts and big vocals. During the final song, the crowds were pretty much on top of the band as they pushed forward and enjoyed the experience as much as the band did, followed by a dart into the crowd from the lead singer Darren to finish off what had been the perfect night for the Dundee music scene. All three acts are definitely ones to watch.
