After dropping their sophomore album last year, Bass Drum of Death wrapped up 2013 by appearing in Grand Theft Auto V and providing the perfect soundtrack for driving around a fictional version of LA and trashing anything in sight.
Seeming keen to continue their rise in popularity, the garage-rock duo have just dropped the first track from their new album Rip This.
Left For Dead starts with the thundering drums and wailing guitars that have become synonymous with their name over the last few years. The production is a little cleaner than anything they’ve done before, but that doesn’t mean they’ve lost their charm – it’s simply the band’s next logical step towards crafting the huge, noisy rock anthems that they’re so clearly capable of.
John Barrett hasn’t lost his talent for penning a catchy hook either and Left For Dead is home to one of his most memorable yet, making it a great sign of things to come.
Refining your songwriting and tightening your production whilst keeping a firm grip on your lo-fi roots may seem like a near-impossible task, but Bass Drum of Death have managed with ease, producing 3 caterwauling minutes of their loudest and best material yet.
